How did COVID-19 affect the demand for Garage Doors in the UK?

by Zap Garage Doors|11 June, 2021

During the COVID pandemic, more people than ever were working from home – a trend that doesn’t appear to be diminishing any time soon. For tradespeople, this is phenomenal news.

No longer do people have to juggle their nine to five with other commitments. Now, they can get in tradespeople to complete jobs they’ve been putting off for so long while causing little disruption to their day.

This may go to explain why UK Searches for Garage Doors Increased 38%

Interest was particularly strong throughout most of the first lockdown. So why might this be? Simply put, people were making more use of their garages to potentially work from there and do other things while other venues are closed.

Many people converted their garages into home gyms to keep in shape while they were at home. Naturally, if you want to use your garage more, a draughty, unsecure or creaking garage door is the last thing you need.

While popularity in this search term remained steady throughout the second lockdown, interest fell by the end of December. This was followed by another period of interest after the new year and throughout the third lockdown.

‘Hormann’ Garage Doors Proved Particularly Popular, Experiencing a 14% Increase in Searches

We believe these garage doors were popular during the lockdown as they are more versatile than the average garage door. For example, these doors are available in sectional designs that save space, different finishes and colours, and doors that enable pedestrian access or contain windows.

There were a couple of dips in interest. Namely, the middle of the first lockdown and from late February 2021. Otherwise, it’s a term that’s performed well.

This was particularly the case in the first half of October 2020 and just before the third lockdown.

Something Similar is Expected with ‘Garador Garage Door’, which is Predicted to Rise 177%

The fact that Garador is a leading manufacturer of garage doors is probably the top reason for this. They have a readily available network across the UK of over 1,000 installers offering a range of doors in many colours, finishes and styles.

Further reasons for their popularity include the fact they’re a well-established name, their products are renowned for their quality, and people can use their online door builder. In short, they offer one of the easiest ways to buy and install a new garage door despite the COVID situation.

Places Experiencing High Numbers of Searches for Garage Doors were Mainly Large Cities

Including Northampton, Glasgow, Sheffield, Liverpool and Leeds. So why else were garage doors being searched on Google so frequently in these locations? By examining each one individually, the situation becomes more apparent.

Northampton is close to many other major cities, including London, Birmingham, Cambridge and Nottingham, and various surrounding smaller towns. Northampton may also be considered a commuter town for the larger city of London.

This is similar for Glasgow, Sheffield, Liverpool and Leeds, which are all large cities that are densely populated and close to other major towns and cities. Therefore, you can expect greater demand for garage doors here.

Why Terms Relating to Garage Doors were so Popular During COVID-19

During the lockdown, more people were adapting their garage spaces for other uses like home offices and gyms. As part of this, people perhaps realised that their old garage door wasn’t suitable and so began investigating suppliers and makes of doors as they thought of replacing theirs.

Specific popular brands of doors include Hormann and Garador. They both offer a range of high quality and versatile products. At the same time, Garador made everything more manageable during the lockdown, from finding the perfect garage door to having it installed.
